Our time in Muranga has come to a close
I write this on the road before we all doze
5,000 children have played cricket with us
Now on to Kisumu with 6hrs on the bus
We have trained up new coaches in our time here
Freddie the youngster, a natural it’s quite clear
Elijah: a repertoire of dance moves he did not lack
And Joseph who is never far from his rain Mac
The week finished with a festival of cricket for all
16 teams present thanks to Coach Mathias and his alias Paul
A quiet man yet on the cricket field he loses it
So much so that the team have re-named him the “ROGUE UNIT!”
Aside from the cricket we have bonded as a team
A small rave for Elijah’s birthday – we created a scene
Luke dancing on a speaker and Kylie sent Ed spinning around
The DJ still loving the Macarena 4th time round
It is also worth mentioning our meals together
Hungry yet happy faces waiting for what felt like forever
Chris ordered lamb chops and roast potatoes
And received some goat and rice – this is Africa I suppose!
A highlight this week was when a boy with difficulties socialising
Began leading a relay team: I found it quite surprising
He even helped us pack up our kit
When at the start of the session all he wanted to do was sit
I’m thankful for the opportunities with CWB
With the times we share and the things we see
There is no experience quite like it, that’s for sure
Now on to the second week, I can’t wait for more!
