Our day began in the town of Kumi with a special mission: teaching the teachers. A group of 21 enthusiastic teachers joined us for a cricket skills session designed to give them new games and activities they could take back to their schools. The energy was fantastic from the start. Many of them had limited experience with cricket before, but their willingness to learn and join in made the morning incredibly rewarding. By the end of the session, they were confidently trying drills, learning fielding techniques, and laughing through new rapid-fire activities they could easily run with their students.
The rest of the team headed out to visit two local schools. The first sessions were lively and full of excitement as students gathered to try the cricket games. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans. A sudden downpour rolled in and brought our activities to a halt. Even though the rain stopped play, it didn’t stop the smiles. The joy on the students’ faces while playing cricket was unforgettable and reminded us why these visits are so meaningful.
The rain also created an unexpected adventure on the road. The muddy conditions turned the tracks into slippery paths, and at one point our bus became firmly stuck. Thankfully, the team managed to get moving again. It was a moment of teamwork that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.
Our final stop turned out to be the perfect ending. As we arrived, the entire school gathered and welcomed us with singing and celebration. Their voices filled the air, and it was impossible not to feel moved by the warmth of their reception.
Despite the rain, mud, and travel challenges, it was truly a wonderful day—one full of learning, laughter, and the shared love of cricket both serving purpose and hope for the next generation of cricketers.
