MEET THE TEAM

Here’s the volunteer team which will be travelling to Uganda at the end of February 2026.

Mark Campbell – CWB Veteran and Team Leader

Home Town: North London

Why CWB? – As an adult I have done three main things – work with children; play cricket; travel- so you see that CWB might be a fit for me. So now I’ve done a dozen projects and loved every minute. I have found a regular boost of smiles from enthusiastic children keeps me going at work for the rest of the year – and the smiles in Uganda are bright and broad. Looking forward to travelling with old friends, visiting old friends and making old friends.

Why Am I nearly famous? – I was asked for my autograph as Stacey Peralta – who was a world champion skateboarder. I was visualising my signature on the young fans’ skateboards and making their day when I the follow up came to me  “that’s great can you do a few tricks…..”!

Music for a Desert Island

  1. Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves – Cher
  2. I need a Doctor – Dr Dre and Eminem
  3. Pretty Vacant – Sex Pistols

Don’t worry – Toto (Africa) and 10cc ( Dreadlock Holiday) find their way to the top whenever I’m on a CWB trip

Ali McCreedy – Longstanding CWB Volunteer

Home Town – Ashtead in Surrey

Why CWB? – I was persuaded to sign up by friends who had fantastic experiences on projects. It’s an incredible way to really get to know a country, and the enthusiasm of the kids is an absolute joy. You come back humbled, but feeling that you’ve actually helped to make a difference. This will be project number 9 for me, so I think that says it all!

Why am I nearly famous? – I was once hailed from the other side of the car park at Chelmsford cricket by England legend Enid Bakewell (who I know well from Women’s Cricket Week). Not a bad way to impress some serious cricket friends!

Music for a (CWB) Desert Island

Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) – Shakira

Proud – Heather Small

Somewhere Only We Know – Keane (kindly dedicated to CWB volunteers at our 20th Anniversary dinner)

Ken Morrison – First CWB Trip

Home town—Southampton, Hampshire

Why CWB? I was first introduced to CWB by Hampshire Cricket Board a couple of years ago when they showed me some highlights of a visit to Rwanda.  I was immediately struck by two main thoughts; the joy of the faces of the children participating and sense of achievement for the coaches providing the opportunity.  I am also very excited about the prospect of visiting Uganda

Why am I nearly famous? Hmmm, not so sure about this one!  I have never owned a supermarket (unlike my famous namesake) and unlike my great uncle’s grandfather I have never played football in a cup final for Aberdeen!

Music for a Desert Island

Stairway to Heaven—Led Zeppelin

Making Movies—Dire Straits

One day like this—Elbow

Holly Andrews – First CWB Trip

Hometown: Bath

Why CWB? I read about CWB after looking at jobs on the ECB website, in the middle of a career change. I loved the idea of combining cricket, travel and making a difference so it seemed the perfect fit. This will be my first project but having attended the training weekend and heard so many amazing stories, I suspect it won’t be my last!

Why am I nearly famous? Fortunately, I’m as far from famous as you could possibly be. Although an umpire did once tell me I was only player who’d ever smiled at him walking off after he’d given them out lbw!

Music for a desert island? I like a bit of everything, but if I could only listen to one artist on my desert island it would have to be Coldplay

Lara Killick – Third CWB Trip

Hometown: Claremont, California

Why CWB?: I met Lee and Sara back in 2017 and knew that CWB would play some role in my future. The mission, vision, values of CWB align with my professional commitment to youth empowerment, social justice, and reducing global health disparities through a strengths/asset-based approach AND my personal love of the greatest game in the world, cricket.  It took 8 years, but I went on my first CWB trip to Nepal in 2025 and am now about to embark on Rwanda and Uganda trips (2026)! I’m officially hooked.

Why am I nearly famous? I am decidedly un-famous….although others may say I’m infamous in certain Nerd circles.

Music for desert island:

All along the watchtower (Jimi Hendrix);

Layla (Clapton/Derek & the Dominos);

Sultans of Swing (Dire Straits),

Alice Johnson – First CWB Trip

Hometown: Hull, Yorkshire

Why CWB?: I have lived, worked and breathed Cricket for as long as I can remember. Cricket in Yorkshire is ingrained in every step and I am always keen to share my passion with others! When I saw the CWB advert I knew instantly it would be a fantastic opportunity to spread my love of the game and provide opportunities to so many! I am super excited to visit Uganda and create cricketing avidity for the children and coaches.

Why am I nearly famous?. Definitely not famous as I often get asked “who the … is Alice?”

Music for desert island: An insight into my questionable music taste…

Piano Man – Billy Joel
Formation – Beyonce
Brave – Ella Henderson

Jim Lynch – Second CWB Trip to Uganda

Hometown – Brentwood, Essex but originally from Bootle on Merseyside

Why CWB? Essex Cricket in the Community sent me CWB’s advert back in 2024 and I was keen to put something back into cricket which has given me so much enjoyment. I had such a hugely rewarding and enjoyable time in Uganda that I just have to go back.

Why I am nearly famous – I was on Univeristy Challenge for Essex University in 1971.

Music for a Desert Island (liable to change in 5 minutes)

Thunder Road – Bruce Springsteen

Won’t Get Fooled Again – The Who

Bat Out of Hell – Meatloaf
