Leaving lira

Festival Fun and Farewell Lira!

Today we wrapped up our fourth and final day in Lira by hosting a festival attended by 9 primary schools we had visited over our time there.

Our hosts were Railways schools whose power hitting and patriotic fans led them to a well deserved victory. Their final opponents Lira Modern displayed excellent teamwork and fielding to secure their place in the showcase finale.

With 4 pitches on the go most of the morning the festival was a vibrant, energetic and fun affair.

We were also joined by Komboni college a senior school and CWB ambassador Manny had them playing pairs cricket which was expertly coached and led by Doreen from the school. Doreen has mountains of potential as a coach despite just getting to grips with the game of cricket. The whole group are excited to see her grow and develop her coaching.

During our festival, we also tested the HIV knowledge of the players. Thank you to … for delivering crucial information and knowledge whilst teams were off the pitch. The festival demonstrated the core values of CWB, using cricket for good and providing a fun outlet for primary and secondary school children. We were very impressed with the skills on and off the pitch shown by the children of Lira and are excited to continue our work in Gulu!

Special mention to the Lira Hotel for making us feel at home during our stay and to our bus driver Joseph for taking us around the schools and spreading his joy and happiness.

Next step for us is Gulu.
