Day 14 – Last Night of the Poms

Our last full day as a team began with Greg, Jono, Lesley and me visiting the Rwandan Orphans Project (ROP). This wonderful organisation provides a home and education for orphaned young boys and it was fantastic to spend time with the boys, playing a bit of cricket, football and general larking about, although Greg did manage to fit in a bowling session for one young boy who showed a lot of potential with the ball.

Next we were all off to Kicukiro for the big match between CWB and the Rwandan Cricket Association. Unfortunately what I’m sure would have been a huge CWB win was prevented by yet more rain. Until next year.

The evening finished with a meal for CWB and RCA, which was fantastic. We were all very honoured when the RCA presented Lee with an award celebrating teen years of CWB projects in Rwanda, especially Lesley who kindly offered to bring it home.

Seeing the boundless enthusiasm of the Rwandan children and the way that cricket can be used to spread the all important HIV/AIDS messages has been hugely satisfying and working with such a dedicated and friendly team an absolute privilege. Rwanda is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited and volunteering for CWB has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had.

Thanks Everybody
