The end of the World!

Well boys and girls, the last full day in Rwanda is coming to an end for the team and what a couple of weeks it has been.

The final day of coaching started in Huye this morning with the festival for the local schools we had coached during our 2nd week in the south. 4 primary schools competing against each other whilst 2 teams from the secondary school battled it out. The weather was scorching in the early morning sun and the boys and girls of all ages loved it.  The secondary school game finished well ahead of the others which led to an impromptu skills clinic about running between the wickets, backing up and walking in with the bowler. Simple stuff to us but for people who have never seen cricket its a whole new language.

At the completion of the festival and after all the new coaches had been presented with their certificates, the team jumped on the bus ready to head back to Kigali. As we approached the capitals outskirts the sun disappeared and the heaven began to open. My god did they open! People were seen white water rafting down the main road outside the RCA offices. We headed to The Oval for the Women’s U19 training which  captain Colvin was due to lead. Although the only session that could be down was the 4x100m backstroke. As we waited it out under the tin roof of the football stand we watched the light show all around us and the heavens continued to fall. We then plucked up the courage to jump on the bus and head back to base camp of the Solace guest house. Everybody happy to have some running hot water to scrub up ahead of our dinner with the RCA and our last night together as a team.
