Day 2. Pm. Strolling through a sleepy little peaceful village it was hard to believe that this was a refugee camp for up to three generations of Bhutanese refugees. It certainly was not what I had expected.
On approaching the primary school we were faced with the beaming smiles of seventy little people( aged 3_5), their teachers and some and their families. Excitement levels were through the roof ! An hour later after much laughter (and some cricket) we came together for a photo .
Much to our surprise their was a small presentation where we were given a blessing and a small present. Chai latte and chaat with the staff ensued. I was lucky enough to have a talk with one of the school managers who explained their plight. As refugees they were unable to work or emigrate. They could not return to Bhutan. The amazing thing about this haven of a school is that all the teachers were volunteers. They thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon as did the children…but not as much as we did! They were very keen that we came back….pretty sure CWB can make that happen.
