A trunk full of fun
team kenya23 spent their first morning experiencing the work of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. World renowned for their programmes we learned how the trust rescue and rehabilitate orphaned baby elephants with the nurturing aim of eventually reintegrating them back into the wild.
We saw how the elephants personalities were all individual, some enjoying a quiet browsing session and others swooping their trunks about to steal Jade’s bandana!. Despite all their distinct rescue stories and personalities, the elephants are tied together by their circumstances and development in the sanctuary. A message setting us in good stead for the week to come.
Day 1: ready steady go
For their first session, team Kenya headed over to mathias’ coaching school, our local CWB ambassador. The team’s first coaching ran smoothly, most particularly aided but the sheer enthusiasm and talent of all the smiling children.
We met Lucy Wanjiku, who after playing cricket for 2 years now represents Muranga in its first team as their opening batter and wicket keeper. She told us how grateful she is to CWB for introducing her to cricket by teaching at her school, helping her to find a new talent that she really enjoys and is good for her body.
The team learned a lot from their first experience of swarming children with lots of high fives and beard touching ! It was amazing to see the real and impactful difference our work can make to the lives of these children. After a great first day the team is growing in confidence, heading into tomorrow with smiles on our faces and ready to take on the larger numbers to come.

Full energy ladies and gentlemen.
