From knowing nothing to wanting it all

So, we had 52 prospective coaches in the end! (compare that to a max 24 in the UK-we really need to loosen up)- a fantastic  effort by our Murang'a Ministry for Sport and Culture rep, Joyce, By their own admission, they were apprehensive and  knew little about the game but after a good introductory morning (focussing on the power of an effective demo and creating fun activities with the ABCs threaded in) and an eventful afternoon, they were asking so many questions by the end and ultra competitive to boot. Cameron, still recovering from when two stumps attacked him while he was feeding (a vigorous hit wicket), and then a bat that hit him at square leg (oops! sweaty palms) resorted to reinforcing the key coaching points via suitable chants- which went down extremely well and was popular with the coaches. After a visit from the county sports minister the Hon Githirwa Macharia and group photos, we went into fun catching drills. Today, we covered the importance of some direct instruction, reliance on quality demos to paint the picture and then introduction of relevant fun games to allow reinforcement of the coaching points and the ABCs.

A great effort by the team, everybody fully involved, including direct tutoring, quality demonstrations, encouragement to the coaches (Sammi, Reilly and Kelly absolutely great in the field) and loads of ABC messages.

Couldnt have hoped for a better response locally (bets ranged from 20-40 when we were told possibly 50 by Joyce at breakfast) and a more interested and motivated group of (potential) coaches.

More cricket relevant stuff and ABCs the morning and then some assessments. Half of us staying on Coach Ed, half off to schools for some coaching. Gonna be awesome!
