Mathias Nanjofu Wasike is a cricket coach in Murang’a County, Kenya. He coaches in 9 schools every week, and has ambitions to reach even more! He was introduced to cricket and coaching by Cricket Without Boundaries in 2015, learning how to coach cricket and include HIV prevention messages.
CWB left a bag of kit with Mathias, and he launched himself into coaching in schools as a volunteer. Once Cricket Kenya saw how great a job he was doing, they employed him part-time as a community cricket coach, so he could keep spreading the word about cricket and HIV prevention.
Mathias’ biggest challenge, however, is transport. Without a means of getting himself to schools, Mathias has to spend a large amount of his income on rides around town. It’s stopping him from getting to 6 extra schools who are desperate for him to come and introduce cricket, and means he can’t save money to help support his family. He needs a motorbike, to help him get himself and his bag of kit around the schools.
So Cricket Without Boundaries are launching an appeal: Mathias needs a Motorbike, and you can help! A good used bike will cost approximately £700, any amount you can donate will help to get Mathias on the road and into more schools across Murang’a.
