CWB volunteers had an unforgettable and truly inspiring day in Bukadea, Uganda. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this would be more than just a cricket outreach session \u2014 it would be a celebration of sport, learning, and community spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the course of the day, we visited seven different schools, each one welcoming us with incredible enthusiasm. Word had clearly spread, because everywhere we went, children were waiting eagerly, their excitement impossible to miss. By the end of the day, we had engaged with approximately 1,250 children \u2014 and every single one of them wore a smile that could light up the entire district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The energy in Bukadea is something special. As soon as the equipment bags were unzipped and the bats and balls came out, the fields transformed into vibrant hubs of activity. For many of the children, this was a rare opportunity to play structured cricket, and they embraced it wholeheartedly. We ran sessions focusing on batting, bowling, and fielding, making sure each child had the chance to participate and develop their skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The batting sessions were filled with cheers as children stepped up bravely to face the ball.. Cricket became more than just a game; it became a way to build confidence, communication, team work and trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the day was all about the children, it was also a huge learning experience for everyone involved. As volunteers, we learned so much from the local coaches. Their dedication to developing young players, often with limited resources, is nothing short of inspiring. They understand their communities deeply and know exactly how to connect with the children in meaningful ways. Working alongside them is a privilege, and there was a genuine exchange of knowledge throughout the day. Coaching tips, new drills, and different approaches were shared openly, strengthening everyone\u2019s ability to grow the game further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the most powerful aspects of the day was the infectious energy. From the youngest pupils to the teachers watching from the sidelines, there was a sense of unity and excitement that carried us from school to school. Even after hours in the sun, the children\u2019s enthusiasm never faded. Their eagerness to learn and play served as a reminder of why cricket outreach programs matter so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seeing 1,250 smiling faces in one day is something that stays with you. The impact of sport goes far beyond the boundary rope \u2014 it builds confidence, creates opportunities, and brings communities together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As we packed away the final set of stumps and waved goodbye, one thing was certain: Bukadea\u2019s energy is unforgettable.
