On Saturday 1st March, 5 of the 7 CWB team gathered at Heathrow airport ahead of the journey to Kumi, Uganda.
A RwandAir flight took us via Kigali, Rwanda where we picked up Anna, who had been part of the recent CWB team in Rwanda. Our second plane arrived at Entebbe, Uganda where we met up with the rest of our team.
After our bags had been skilfully loaded through the window of the bus (see photo evidence) we were ready to hit the road, with six hours on the bus awaiting us.
A strong mixture of sleeping, looking out the window, and an emergency samosa stop kept us going on the long bus trip.
Finally, almost 24 hours after meeting at Heathrow, we arrived at our hotel in Lira. We had a much deserved beer and dinner as well as sitting down to dicuss tomorrow’s plans with the Samuel, Igalu and Ivan, the Ugandan coaches working with us here in Lira.
It has been both an exciting and tiring start to the trip, and it will be great to get stuck into our first day of coaching at local schools tomorrow.
Bonus: Rapid fire Q&A with Hersh in our room:
Q: What was the best bit about today?
A: Arriving in Lira
Q: What are you most looking forward to about the trip?
A: Coaching and working with all of the excited kids
Q: What is something about Uganda you have noticed so far?
A: People are very kind and friendly
