Saturday morning on the outskirts of Coventry and 30 strangers meet at Finham Park School for a CWB induction and training weekend. Sunday afternoon and 30 firm friends have bonded and become part of the CWB family. We had a fantastic weekend of activity, instruction, dummy lessons and competition. We got to know the senior CWB team led by Lee Booth, our new travelling companions, learned a little of what to expect in Uganda and of what was expected of us by CWB and the schools themselves. Challenging and exciting all at the same time.
Parachutists talk of the “ground rush.” Once you are out of the aircraft and relieved that the canopy has opened there is a delightful period of relaxation as you gently float with no sense of motion. Then in the last few seconds the float disappears and ground rushes towards you and its time to brace for landing. Our departure date of 24th February which seemed so far away when we signed up is now ground rushing towards us. Time to get ready.
