Best moment – Meeting little Michael at Mbarara teachers training. He was 7 but participated from the start and earned his CWB t shirt
Most difficult part – Day 3 in Masindi after 2 previous days of exceptional heat I was cramping and really struggling but the team pulled me through.
Reason for a first time volunteer to go on a trip – Just do it as it will be an amazing experience one you will remember forever.
Carl Ferguson
Best moment – Can’t pick one, so will go for all three festivals. Thousands of children all playing competitively and with the biggest smiles on their faces. The Family Spirit ‘Ultras’ cheering on their team will live with me forever.
Most difficult part – Being bowled by Manny twice in two balls & being referred to as Karl throughout (it is most definitely Carl with a C – sorry for the confusion, mum!)
Reason for a first time volunteer to go on a trip – Just look at the pictures, videos and blogs… That will give you reason enough!
Julie Fielder
Best moment – Family spirit week one think what Issac has achieved and is trying to achieve for the children is amazing.
Most difficult part – The 3rd day in Masindi when we had problems with the language barrier and just the heat in Masindi.
Reason for a first time volunteer to go on a trip – Go for it, embrace it, enjoy it, it can be hard work but it is worth it and you won’t regret it. You’ll meet some wonderful people, amazing children and make loads of new friends.
Daniel Fitzpatrick
Best moment – The visit to family spirit 2nd day of the trip.
Most difficult part – The heat in Nyatoke school in Masindi everyone struggling in 35+ degrees.
Reason for a first time volunteer to go on a trip – It’s not a relaxing holiday, and it can be tough but throw yourself into and at the end to know you’ve coached 7000 kids it’s so rewarding and you can really make an impact, such a great experience.
Ed Lamb
Best moment – Seeing the teacher we trained from Asaba coaching brilliantly and inspiring the kids.
Most difficult part – Being refused a high five by a teenager who said “I can’t do that – you’re white and I’m a monkey”.
Reason for a first time volunteer to go on a trip – It’s not a relaxing holiday but take a (small) risk and go for it. CWB trips have given me a totally different perspective on life and I’ve met some like-minded friends for life.
Tom Lyes
Best moment – Mbarara festival. 1 field, several thousand children playing multiple sports.
Most difficult part – Leaving the trip to go home.
Reason for a first time volunteer to go on a trip – Sign up, get fit and get strong to be the best you can be.
