The Rwenzori View Guest House
After an early start we travelled a short distance to Nyakasura School and found a very large area of grass to impart our Cricket skills. However, after arriving back at 7.30 after a day in the sun and an excellent dinner, this is not the best time to write a blog (9.00 pm)
We were told there would be 20 teachers for Coach Education which would only have involved some of our coaches, but fortunately there were 24 teachers and nearly 50 children all younger secondary age. The Teachers were brilliant and stayed the whole day going through their skills, without disappearing into the bush or just leaving the sessions.
Graham led the Coach Education and involved Mark, Liam and Beth at various stages to deliver certain skills. Emanuel our Ugandan Coach was receiving attention from Susanne one of the teachers and to avoid her attention Emanuel in his shy and reserved way moved groups. Susanne is still looking for him. One again the Ugandan teachers, some of whom had never played before, showed amazing natural talent, especially in bowling and throwing. The certificates were presented with the expectation that they will attend tomorrow and take a part in the sessions.
The 50 children were a more boisterous assignment for Tom, Ross, Richard and SJ, but after a quick carousel through batting, bowling and fielding exercises, they really got involved in the rapid fire competition which closed the morning. In the afternoon, we played a raucous and competitive game of continuous cricket, and just as we were drawing to a close at around 3.45pm the headmaster asked us if we could entertain another 50 children who were due to be having their afternoon PE! Not wishing to disappoint, we managed to cobble together another couple of stumps and a few cones and played a completely manic 25-a-side game of rapid fire, which kept everyone happy and involved, even if the coaches ended the day a little hoarse.
The Gardens restaurant provided a period of relaxation and a beer after another busy day before getting back at 7.00 to our hotel and another beautiful meal. Just time for a beer and short recovery for another busy day tomorrow
Tomorrow sees the newly trained coaches bringing their children from ten schools for coaching in the ABC messaging.
