Match Report V Sacred Hearts

As we arrived at the school on Joseph’s team coach with a strong squad of 4, we had worked out we were in for a tough first day against a strong girls 11!!! Captain Lizzie managed too lose the toss, and Sacred Hearts elected too bowl first on what can only be described as “difficult too read” surface. As all good captains do Lizzie opened the batting along with Sacred Hearts very own version of Geoffrey Boycott (Anthony) who is a teacher at the school. Runs were rather hard too come by early doors as our openers decided too play and miss a lot against a bowling attack who used their local knowledge too good effect! Lizzie finally perished too an outstanding catch in the deep for a well crafted 7. This then brought Ugandan legend Grace too the crease, who forced the rate along with a few nice shots, before having to retire to a meeting at another school!

With big hitting Grant demoted to number 5 in the order, youngish Olly strode to the crease and quickly dispatched his first ball through mid-wicket for 4! (Pure Class). With Anthony still plodding along at the other end on 3* off 46 balls, we took the decision too try and take as many runs as possible. Another four boundaries later from Olly, and the CWB team ended on 63-2 off 9 overs! In reply the girls got off to flying start as Grant felt generous enough to offer a wide selection of pies. Time came for a change in the bowling as el capitano came on and picked up a wicket with her first ball, having the opener caught at mid-wicket by Grant. The girls found runs far to easy to come by and quickly only needed 4 to win off the last 6 balls, which they managed comfortably thanks to more poor bowling from the CWB team.

For winning the game we donated a whole set of kwik cricket kit so the girls can carry on improving and developing their skills.
