Goodbye musanze

We’re back and we’re ready to do it all over again!

An early start for the team this morning ready for the main event in Musanze today the primary schools cricket festival where Children we have coached This week put their newly found skills to the test against the regions other schools!

The team was in great spirits after last night, where four members of the team donned their freshly purchased Musanze FC tracksuit tops and brought the house down at the local “bring your own karaoke” night. We entertained the locals with our unique singing of Spice Girls songs and the locals in turn  sang back to us “You’re one of our own.” For this reason alone a big crowd was expected at the festival now we was such stars in the region.

The event arrived and as expected there was huge interest in the event. At one point it was confirmed that there were more photographers than players taking part but the festival was soon to be contested between four schools and eight teams with the team playing a round robin format in groups of four.

The standard of cricket was very high in some games and this was great to see from my point of view. Having come on the first trip to Musanze 18 months ago the development of cricket within the region is clear to see and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a couple of these kids in national team colours over the next few years. It was also testament to CWB that as we asked what the ABCTTS messages was to all the student we got clear replies to these questions, proving that the work the team had done over the last week had clearly got through to the kids.

Played under blue skies and no rain for the first time all week (shock – we’re leaving today) the festival boiled down to Mwiko ‘A’ v Mwiko ‘B’ final, showing the fine work that teacher Patrick and CWB Ambassador Emmy have done within this school over the past year or so.

CWB and RCA presented the trophies and after a quick pit stop for lunch the team set off on the way to Muhanga to kick off week two. A very scenic route of which you would not get fed up of all day.

A real high in the journey was when we stopped to stretch our legs, and of course a mandatory game of catch, when a wayward ball shot over the edge of a cliff only for a young boy to sprint off a 100 metres Down to retrieve the ‘tennis’ and give it back to us, For his efforts we rewarded him with the ball and the smile on his face would make anybody’s day! By this time though the heat had obviously gotten to the team when me and Jack was having a very in depth conversation about how we hadn’t see any cars over the last few days. Of course 30 seconds later we drove past a car wash full of cars. Rest needed!

On to week two and of course, we go again!!
