Rwanda 2010

Day 6 – 6th October – Apade – Kagarame – Nyragunga

This is the default text

After the previous days problems on the school fields at Apade during break periods we decided to try a flatter patch of ground just down the road so we would be able to concentrate on the class that we were with. This instantly looked a bad idea when as soon as the bus pulled in the grounds we were mobbed by around a hundred young children several of which decided to hang off the rear wind-screen wiper. We started to herd all of these youngsters into a group and Dave to his credit managed to keep them entertained with a few catching games and some singing (Feeling Hot Hot Hot) and some dancing (the crab and the Spanish crab). Eric the Rwanda opening bowler also helped out he is fantastic with the children and we all keep telling him he should be a teacher.

We managed to have a good session with the class with some hitting of tee’s and a game of non-stop cricket despite the younger kids and some random motorbikes on the field, we then decamped back to the school for the rest of the Apade sessions.

We did a session with another class and then during lunch break I had the chance to do some one to one coaching with Odifax Byringiro including some video analysis (it is the first time he has seen himself bat). He is 14 years old and already captain of the Rwanda under 19 side and he was getting ready to go to Kenya tomorrow for a 4 day ICC coaching camp. He was travelling by bus which is a 2 day trip each way. The rest of the group started doing some work with the rest of the school team.

We then met up with the rest of the team and set off for the after school clubs, it was the best trip so far for spotting things on heads, these included a fez made from newspaper, a tiger striped stetson, a santa hat, a bookshelf and today’s winner a full size fridge.

I was at Kagarame working with the school team, we had a bowling session and then it was back home for another pizza as no one seemed to have energy to travel further.
