This October I am volunteering for a charity called Cricket Without Boundaries on a 2 week trip to Rwanda to help raise HIV/AIDS awareness through cricket.
In Sub-Saharan Africa alone there are 22 million people living with HIV, with 2 million Adult and Child Deaths from AIDS in 2007.
A large number of those infected are children: many of whom are in cricket playing nations in Africa. It is not just medicine that is needed, but education and a focus on changing behavioural patterns. Through visits to schools and orphanages, organising tournaments, providing of equipment and coaching clinics for adults CWB is committed to taking the game of cricket to a new generation of coaches and children.
To raise funds for this trip I am planning to run a marathon around Thurstonland cricket field on Sept 11th. Any donations would be most appreciated. I need to raise at least £750 towards the trip which will be used for accommodation costs but also more importantly for cricket equipment and clothing that will be left behind for future use.
