I’m guessing it was in a Kigali bar or restaurant close on a year ago that the idea of Project leading a CWB trip first entered my head. I’d presumably had a few Mutzigs and it’s a very safe assumption that I was an even mix of happy and exhausted. It seemed like a good idea at the time…
And it seems like an even better idea now. It’s rare a day goes by that I don’t think about my experiences last time in Rwanda. I’m writing this post-training weekend and ever since I have been really itching to get on that plane, especially after meeting the rest of the team, a group of guys I imagine I will run out of superlatives to describe pretty quickly.
If this trip is half as good as my previous one it will still be well worth it. Instead let’s make it at least twice as good again!
James Sugden
This trip to Rwanda is my first trip out of Europe, one of my biggest dreams is to go traveling around the world. I couldn’t think of a better way to start it off by going to Rwanda improving HIV/Aids awareness through cricket.
I am in my second year at Leeds Trinity University studying Sports coaching and PE. I have a part time job coaching various sporting activities to the different age groups between 4 and 16. If you’ve not guessed yet I want to be a full time coach or a PE teacher once I graduate. I play football and cricket for my local teams and have done so from a young age. While out in Rwanda if I can have a positive effect and educate children on HIV/Aids then this could change their lives, surely there’s no better feeling than that?

This is my first trip with CWB and also my first trip to Africa – As someone who loves sport and is currently at Leeds Trinity University studying Secondary physical Education and sports coaching this volunteering opportunity is suited perfectly for me. I am a lover of most sports mainly football (massive Leeds united fan) I am also keen on many other sports including cricket where I use to go and watch Somerset CCC play when I was younger.
I’m from a small town in North Devon and I have now moved almost to the other end of the country to Leeds in order to study at University. I really can’t wait for the trip to start as I’m looking forward to the challenge and experience but mainly the rewarding feeling of knowing I could have a massively positive impact on one or more children’s life’s and let’s be honest it doesn’t get any better than that.
Dan Pett
This is my first trip with cricket without boundaries. I am currently in my second year at Leeds Trinity University, but am from Hertfordshire (North London). I participate in many sports but have a serious passion for football and cricket, playing for my local team Potters Bar Cricket Club. Since the age of 16, I have coached children aged from 3 up to 14 with sessions ranging from football to gymnastics.
I have always wanted to travel the world, so once the opportunity came around to travel to another part of the world to bring enjoyment to kids faces is something that I’m sure I will remember for the rest of my life. I have created many different fundraising events over the past 3 months and even ran a 10k marathon to raise money for the charity. I cannot wait to get over to Rwanda and help to raise awareness for HIV/Aids and to educate them in ways to prevent these issues.

A lifelong interest in cricket and a hunger to travel have led me to link up with Cricket without Boundaries and visit the country of Rwanda. I cannot wait to finally land in Kigali after months of fundraising! I am looking forward to educating hundreds of young children and putting a smile on their faces!

This will be my first trip with CWB and as a keen sportsman and cricketer it was the ideal opportunity for me to make a difference through something I love. I have turned my hand at pretty much every sport over the years but mainly grew up playing hockey and cricket. I graduated from Loughborough University and moved to East Dulwich in South East London and stayed for 10 years before moving back to Guildford last year which is where I grew up. I work for Sport England so pretty much live, work and play sport.
I have been happily married for 2 years and the proud dad to a nutty cocker spaniel for the past year. I have never done any trips like this in the past but have done plenty of volunteer through sports and London 2012. My cricket career has been reignited the past couple of years at my local village club Bramley where the company is much better than the standard of cricket! I expect the trip to Rwanda to be both challenging and rewarding in equal measure. Bring it on!
Andrew Ferguson
This will be my second trip with CWB, the first was to Botswana. I am looking forward to another great trip helping CWB carry out the superb work that the charity does.
I am a level 2 coach, helping out with the U11s at my local club. I work on a farm, near Basingstoke in Hampshire. I am very much looking forward to visiting Rwanda and seeing the land of a 1000 hills and hopefully we will be able to put smiles on the faces of a 1000 children during our two week trip.
