Tuesday saw the opening of the Equality Cup, a tournament for women from all districts of Nepal, with some travelling 6 hours. As always the opening ceremony was part pomp and ceremony and part farce, with the decorative plants arriving and being put in place with 2 minutes left of the ceremony, then promptly put back on their trailer they were brought to the ground on and taken away again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was difficult for the volunteers not to support the girls we\u2019d coached in Rajbiraj, but our new friends in Biratnagar made it clear that was not allowed! Nonetheless there was some disappointment as we watched the first few overs and saw a caught behind dropped before we had to leave for coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We coached 3 schools with the third being the most interesting challenge as it was enclosed by balconied school buildings. We had cheering from all around and many of the kids that hadn\u2019t started the game eventually pushing to be involved. In my particular game of rapid fire it was clear the girls were the more skilled, with one girl lambasting the boys for their poor performance before she whipped them into shape. Lovely to see on the opening day of the Equality Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
