Bridging the gap

7am start. Lee and Rachana were upset,  but the rest of us morning people were fine with it!

Early doors at the tournament in Siraha, Ed, Sian and Rachana accidentally walked in on the school warm up routine/assembly. See the video for what is an everday occurrence at this Nepalese school!

With the tournament underway, Sian, Damendra and I went to coach a local school. We straddled a couple of walls and passed the cows and goats and entered our straw covered playing area.

Lots of games and lots of fun but the highlight was the brilliant women who walked through with rice (I think) on their head, totally unfussed by the cricket going on.

Back at the main tournament, I umpired 5th v 6th and enjoyed an action filled game. Never have I had:

  • Boundary markers taken by dogs
  • Play interrupted by goats, small children and dogs on the field.
  • Being asked by a batter to hold her shoes (very different to holding a bowler’s sweater!).

Nothing makes me happier than a game like that, the girls smiling and loving their cricket with all the idiosyncrasies of a random rural Nepalese village. And great hospitality from Sabal Nepal (again) as they showed us the amazing views across the bridge at Kamla mai uttarahini.

Bring on tomorrow!

Ed
