This is where it really begins. Before the Training Weekend, volunteering for CWB can feel slightly unreal. Based on emails, phone messages and sometimes a quick conversation it can be difficult to really grasp what it’s all about.
Big things are promised of the Training Weekend. I hope it delivers.
The weekend is held at Finham Park School in Coventry: easy to get to being in the middle of the country and plenty of space both inside and out. Not quite a true representation of the pitches of sub-Saharan Africa, but it teaches us to be able to adapt to whatever the venue or weather throws at us.
This year we were blessed with autumnal sunshine and spent a lot of time outside. The CWB Team gave a great introduction to the charity answering the “why” question. The practical sessions demonstrated the “what” and the “how”.
But beyond that, it is the first time that the Team gets to meet each other. Nervous introduction are soon followed by more confident conversations and in no time at all, joking and much laughter.
We all left the weekend with brains full, bodies tired and a building sense of excitement about the trip ahead.
