Cricket Without Boundaries – Equality and Inclusion Lead

I work closely with forcibly displaced people and refugees, and I am really excited to be on the inaugural CWB Refugee project to Jordan. With our inclusive and interactive coaching practice, we have a great opportunity to learn and understand the views of the young people within these communities, so working with our partners UNHCR and Right to Play we can bring fun, learning and insight into the young person’s view in order to ensure that they are supported.

Having lived and worked in Jordan for almost two years, I’m looking forward to returning with our team on a different mission. We initially ran a world cup style cricket tournament with 1000 of Jordan’s migrant workers in 2015 in aid of the Syria White Helmets. Now we have the opportunity to establish a programme that can be a force for good in the long run. Sport continues to have positive impact on refugees lives in the region; I’m grateful we have the opportunity to add cricket to that story

I went to Jordan in 1996, before the great adventure of setting up CWB in 2005. I remember the crusader castles, the call to prayer, the houmous and the shared minibus ride, as well as the most amazing hospitality. Like the rest of the team I am hugely excited to be working with the UNCHR and Right to Play to use cricket to encourage children to go to school. This is the first time CWB has coached in the Middle East. We hope it to the first of many trips!

Cricket Without Boundaries – Head of Delivery

After the best part of 20 projects in sub-Saharan Africa I am excited about taking on a new country in a very different part of the world. It will be great to see how our delivery works in Jordan and how it might need adapting to meet local needs.

I’m also very much looking forward to seeing how our partnership with Right to Play develops – as a global organisation who do play based social development incredibly well I have always admired the work they do. It is going to be a fantastic opportunity for CWB to get up close to their work in Jordan and I hope to use it as a real learning opportunity for the charity and potentially the start of a broader partnership across all our countries.
