Reflections from the Cameroon Cricket Federation

This trip simply would not have been possible without the Cameroon Cricket Federation, so it is only right that we ask them for their thoughts as to how it has gone.  So, the following comes to you from CCF team members Divine, Chi Lavette and Geraldine, who have worked with the CWB volunteers over the last fortnight to coach more than 2,000 kids, as well as taking the CWB coaching course to become coaches themselves.

Divine: What a marvelous time this past 2 weeks have been. Ooh how time flies. Working with CWB has been an enriching experience 4 all involved. Getting kids interested with sports in general and cricket in particular not leaving out the HIV-AIDS awareness messages has simply been inspiration.
Thumbs up for CWB

Geraldine: Hi my name is Pingpoh Geradine Fepoh.  I’m a student in the university of Yaounde where I study physics. I’m 24 years old, play in the Cameroon female national cricket team, and was very fortunate to be chosen from all my colleagues to take part in the trip to Buea with the CCF in partnership with the CWB.  Hence, the team was made up of very lovely an wonderful people such as Laura our mother, leader and our mentor, again we had our sweet joker, dancing Danny the youngest. Without forgetting our sweet Cathy, caring Chandra, straightforward Clive, observant Ben, coordinating Laurence, sweet sister Lavet, charming Divine and finally our understanding pilot Eric.

I enjoyed the trip hugely because the activities we carried out were really amazing in the sense that in all the schools we visited we put smiles on the children faces, the teachers faces, our faces and of all the target which is the ABC message was spread around like air pollution in a way that even on the street we can feel the echo of the children singing ABC CWB achika Chica chic. What a brilliant ideas the CCF and CWB had. I believe with the way this information is developing, cricket will soon be very common practice among the Cameroonian citizens.  For an exemplar the way the Teachers training school in Buea loved the encounter, it was so so full of excitement and enjoyment in their various faces and for us, we feel accomplished in our mission till the festival.  They were all happy and just wanted to continue playing and winning and singing CWB ABC.  It was really a great and wonderful experience for me to coach and I learnt a lot and indeed I’m really glad to be among this wonderful team to pass this ABC message all over Cameroon and particularly in Buea.  I know the team really did a wonderful job congratulations to all BRAVO.  Waiting to have you back in six months time for new encounters and discoveries.  Long live the CCF, long live CWB, long live our marriage, long live our bosses.  A big Thanks To All.

Lavet: Hello: I am a participant from CCF, to work with CWB team from England this year.  Actually it’s my first time working with the CWB, this year all thanks to my president that is , the president of CCF of seeing me worthy of the mission.  Cricket Without Boundaries has been working with CCF for some time now, and they all equally have one focus, which is teaching cricket in Cameroon and sensitising the children/Cameroonians about HIV/AIDS.  With this they came out with four alphabetical letters which could be used in the game. A:Abstinence, B: Be Faithful, C: Condom and T: Test.  We taught on how we need to abstain from bending our arms when bowling, be faithful to our partners, to protect ourselves from injuries when playing and finally to always test ourselves to see If we are good or not.  This is a very easy way for children to learn how to prevent HIV and put it into practice, and that we did it because the children could easily store that in their brains.  The CWB team was made up of Laura the team head, Clive, Chandra, Ben, Danny and Kirsty meanwhile the CCF team was made up of Ayuk Laurence, Divine, Geraldine and myself without forgetting our driver Eric.  Hence it was really a great thing working with them all because we all had one spirit, one objective, which was to do our job very well, we also did live as one big family with no misunderstanding between each other’s beside that, couldn’t happened because Danny was always there to make us laugh.

Again, say it was really fun teaching people even older than me and also children of very young ages.  It was really an experience that I had to learn, I even had to visit an orphanage for my first time.  I equally learnt a lot an corrected my mistakes.  Hence, I say a big thanks to CCF, for having such trust in me to send me on this mission I now know what it takes to be a coach or taking part in the group.  Finally everything ended up so well due to our wonderfull coorperation with each other and also thanks to the leader Laura and to the team spirit. I will say a big thanks to the CCF and the CWB for their partnership and will equally say let them keep up and never relent their efforts for they are doing a great job in the lives of the children.  Keep up for better days are yet to come.

God bless U All CCF and CWB, I love You All and job well done.
