Tuesday was an early start for Sian, Dan, Jo and Thom. 7am at Col\u00e8gio Municipal working with 120 children over three sessions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a brief interlude of rooftop macaques entertainment Jonathan, Maz and Yolanda took up the reins and hit the ground running, completing the last two sessions before lunch while the dawn shift ventured to the top of one of many surrounding hills to the PMJ Santa Maria Project for some skills practice and the distribution of purple participant hats and t-shirts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a short lunch and largely in pairs we spread ourselves across the city to schools, sports centres and projects. Inventing games, encouraging smiles and developing skills we did the CWB thing, promoting fun and partnerships with children and teachers alike. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting three separate sessions with under 15 boys and 2 mixed ability groups. Dan helped with some fielding drills for the u15s while Jo and Maz supported a girls session, swapping over later on. The local coaches were brilliant, really receptive to trying new things and having a clear presence of their own. We finished the mixed ability session with a pairs game and fed in small points for improvement (backing up, calling). The kids took it all on board and stepped it up as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yolanda and Jonathan ventured to PMJ Jo\u00e3o Monteiro Project, replicating the cap and t-shirt distribution with a number of close quarter skills games.. At the same time, Thom, Sian and Sarah managed a second visit to Col\u00e8gio Municipal at the end of the day for another two sessions, much to Elias\u2019 delight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elias is a teacher of 45 years, 38 of those years at this school, and enthusiastically delivering cricket skills to his students from 6 to 16, and all with the biggest smile we\u2019ve seen so far, and if Elias can complete an 11 hour day after 45 years of teaching, it’s an absolute honour to follow his lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
