Week 1 reflection

Week 1. The team are into the swing of CWB delivery, supporting and observing local coaches and coaching. Unlike the experiences of many team members and previous projects, here in Brazil the infrastructure, vision and organisational capacity to deliver is clear and apparent wherever we go. Not a ‘normal’ CWB Project perhaps but one with observable impact, from the smiles on children’s, teacher’s and carer’s faces to the questions asked of the team by the developing coaches.

As a town centre Poços de Caldos is small. Almost everywhere we need to go is within walking distance and when it comes to walking around the town centre we are now as familiar with the streets as those who live here!

What have we seen and experienced?

We’ve seen robust planning and organisation, adaptable to the weather and needs of Cricket Brasil and CWB. We’ve seen cricket coaching of the highest quality from every young player and university supported coach within Cricket Brasil, and we’ve seen a genuine support of the vision, the methods and intended outcomes, and a connection between the coaches/players and the President/CEO. Cricket Unites.

We’ve also seen children of all ages and abilities enjoying the game of cricket, either in skills based sessions or in games played. We’ve seen visually impaired cricketers and adults with learning difficulties and neurodiverse challenges. We’ve mixed girls and boys, reinforcing the equity and equality that a game of cricket can provide to everyone engaged and we’ve left no one out who has wanted to join in. We’ve seen Cricket. Without Boundaries.
