Having only just managed to unknot our hair and get most of the sand and dust out of our kit from the day before team Botswana set out at 8.40am for another day of coach education but not before we had discovered the body of what looked like a rather venomous spider in the hotel pool.
First stop was the coach Education group from the past 2 days where Robbie, Jo and myself alighted to finish the coaching course and present our 10 keen graduates with their certificates. As soon as we had set up, Robbie got our teachers from the first coach education course nice and warm with a fun warm up game that tested teamwork as well as catching not forgetting the need to Be Faithful to ones team and abstaining from running with the ball in hand. We then proceeded to be do some more batting drills with Robbie leading and me and Jo floating between the groups giving technical feedback to the groups as well as organising them when and as required. We then proceeded to do some micro-coaching with the coaches taking it in turn to present to the group with me, Jo and Robbie offering help and feedback. After a quick break we had a very entertaining pairs game with an introduction to umpiring and scoring which was occasionally interrupted by some extracurricular from the donkey. Shortly after noon the certificates were handed out to our talented group of coaches with some dodgy name pronunciations flying around.
Meanwhile on the other side of Maun, Lee and Andy C went to start another coach education class of 19 pupils from Maun Technical College waiting to become budding coaches.
The remainder of the team spent the morning coaching more keen young souls, namely at Leopotswa and Okavango International School in temperatures that could only be described as barmy for 10am.
For lunch the team managed to reunite as one, with temperatures now soaring towards 40 celsius we headed off to 2 more Primary Schools for the afternoon, Matiba and Andrew Wellio. In total approximately 120-130 children attended which was a good effort considering the temperatures especially considering the one of the schools was out of water for the kids. We began with some relays before proceeding onto doing some close catching and batting, of course not forgetting our ABCT’s and Stigma messages! Brian’s energetic delivery showed complete control over the kids and raised the spirits of the team.
At the end of the session we gathered under the shade to some local songs from the children and more passionate shouts of Abstain, Be Faithful, Condomise and Testing before we all sought out the sanctity of the hotel pool.
