Meet the CWB team going out to Botswana this spring, the last of the spring projects.<\/em><\/p>\n

This will be my fourth CWB trip, all of which have been to brilliant Botswana
iPod – what’s an iPod?*
What am I looking forward to- meeting old friends in Botswana, making new ones in the team. It’s always fascinating the different skills volunteers bring and how the project develops over the two weeks.
What am I nervous about – losing my voice as I try to out sing and out chant hundreds of enthusiastic children. Being asked to sing a traditional English song by Botswanan teachers who all seem to be able to sing in perfect harmonies.<\/p>\n

Why volunteer? CWB combines the three things I have spent my life doing, working with children, playing cricket and travelling, especially in Africa. On previous trips I have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and positive attitude of all we come across \u00a0so can’t wait to have another dose of smiling faces.<\/p>\n

What am I most looking forward to on the trip? –\u00a0Going back and seeing old friends and meeting new ones!<\/p>\n

What am I most nervous about? Hard ball cricket!<\/p>\n

Why have I volunteered for the trip: \u00a0My role is the HIV lead, meeting stakeholders in country to understand all the elements driving HIV infections. I volunteer because Botswana is such a great, democratic country with such potential, and yet with such a high HIV prevalence and small population, the outcome for the country could be devastating.<\/p>\n

We know that we have an impact, and it’s incredibly rewarding, especially when we go back and see how the cricket is developing, which has so many health and social benefits.<\/p>\n

What are you most looking forward to on the trip?<\/div>\n
I have always wanted to visit Africa and the opportunity to volunteer and see Africa away from the tourist trail and meet the people of Africa in their day to day lives is something I am really\u00a0excited\u00a0about.<\/div>\n

What are you most nervous about?<\/div>\n
Discovering how many Kids from Botswana can throw further than my chocolate arm<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
A short paragraph about why you have volunteered for the trip.<\/div>\n

I have played sport since a very young age at both Twyford House Cricket Club and Firebrands Hockey club. I have experienced a great deal of enjoyment through playing sport.\u00a0 In fact have made some of my best friends through playing sport. I would now\u00a0love to be able to help share some of the enjoyment I have experienced with those less fortunate than myself through the coaching of cricket.\u00a0 Buying a flat with a balcony within the Bristol County Cricket Ground probably counts as been mildly obsessed with cricket and this volunteering opportunity will give me the chance to use my love of cricket for a\u00a0worthwhile\u00a0mission.<\/p>\n

My last trip in 2012 was one of the best experiences of my life and I always said I would go back and do it all again if I could. So here I am! It is a brilliant charity and gives me the chance to coach\/teach cricket, the sport I have grown up with, as well as make an impact on the health and well-being of the people of Botswana. I’m looking forward to the challenge – the rewards are well worth it.<\/div>\n

I volunteered again because the last CWB trip to Botswana was one of the most rewarding undertakins I have done. I still have so much to give the projects and CWB it was only natural to sign up to the project again. I really look forward to continuing the relationship building we started back in 2014.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m looking forward to embracing the slightly different culture of Botswana compared to previous countries visited, as well as trying to up the numbers coached in the country. On a side note, I\u2019m also looking forward to seeing a bit of wildlife!<\/div>\n

The differences in HIV\/AIDS messages compared to the other countries, given such a high prevalence rate within the country.<\/div>\n

Why did I volunteer?<\/div>\n
I volunteered for this project because it\u2019s been over a year since my last CWB project and I felt like I needed to get back out to Africa and embrace the African way once more! This project fell perfectly with the Easter break at Uni, so here I am, off to Bots!<\/div>\n
