Congratulations on becoming a volunteer and welcome to Cricket Without Boundaries! Doing anything new can be daunting, especially if it involves travelling to Africa, coaching cricket, somehow spreading messages about HIV prevention and fundraising for your trip. We’ve created these pages to help make you feel at home.
In this section you’ll find some information about CWB and all things volunteering in the Welcome Pack. We’ve also created a short video which gives you a flavour of what you’ll be doing day to day on your trip. It’s impossible to cover everything, but suffice to say that although each day may start in a similar way, it rarely ends the same. On your trip there’ll be a mixture of coaches and non-coaches, new volunteers and returning volunteers, males and females, older and younger people – so not only will you learn from Africa, you will also learn from each other.
CWB is a health charity that uses cricket as a route to deliver messages to communities in sub-Saharan Africa. We work to reduce HIV transmission, to stop FGM and to promote inclusivity. Messaging is woven into coaching and you will learn more about these techniques at the training weekend.
In the other sections you’ll find our tips on fundraising; information on HIV and FGM; details about the country you will be visiting; coaching tips and a long list of Frequently Asked Questions. There is also a place for all the documents that you will need, so there’s no need to worry if you have misplaced an email attachment!
There are occasional meet ups across the country, so do come along to meet other volunteers and if you have a question that needs answering, please let us know. Your training weekend will leave you full of knowledge, but your Project Leader is on hand for things you need to know before then. You can contact CWB at anytime by email firstname.lastname@example.org or through social media channels.
