After a slightly delayed departure while they deiced the wings of the plane, we embarked on our journey- SJ, Clare, Kris, Bob, Bill, Richard, Ciaran, Tameena and Lionel, who was in bound from Bermuda!!
After a quick change in Kenya, we touched down in Uganda at 8am.
We were greeted at the airport by Manny-CWB Ambassador- and our first friend from our 2017 trip. After exchanging pleasantries it was all aboard the bus, with mountains of gear and on the road to Entebbe and the UCA headquarters where we met with players, coaching staff and management from the UCA, including head coach Steve Tikolo.
Next it was the turn of Joseph- the legendary bus driver- to surprise us!! Meeting up with him at the ground at Lugogo was fab! Sadly, due to issues with his bus, he won’t be with us on this trip.
The next surprise came when Yusuf and the team from Masaka SS turned up. A chance meeting with a girls team who we coached last year. And how brilliant to learn that this team won their league this season and were at the Oval for an award ?… when we chatted to the girls, one of them had a photo of us from the trip last spring- such an honour to know that they hold us in such esteem and value the time we spent with them.
…. all too quick it was time to hit the road again for our marathon, 9 hour, trek to our first location – the White Horse Inn in Kabale. We stopped off on the way for a photo opportunity at The Equator and arrived with just enough time to sort out bags and balls, make plans for tomorrow, some Masala Chips and a Club ?
So we are all set and ready to go- just enough time for some kip first zzzzzzzz
